GT: April Gear Roundup
It is with great pleasure that the
Geartrade team announces we have seen the sun. It had been hidden behind storm clouds for so many weeks that we’d begun to doubt its existence, but we can now confirm the planet still revolves around a burning orb. Visions of corn-skiing, goggle tans, and apres-ski flip-flops are now dancing in our heads. It’s why our April gear roundup is an ode to the spring season to come—and all the things that help us experience it.
Stick a little paper umbrella in your drink, start mentally prepping for the sunny days ahead, and read on to learn what spring things we’ve got lots of!
Sun shirts have seen a huge rise in popularity, with good reason—they’re a super lightweight, breathable way to shade your skin and prevent the wicked sunburns you can easily get on a long day outside even if you’re reapplying sunscreen. Get ‘em with a hood or no, zipper or no. It’s up to you. Many are good-looking enough to make their own style statement—and they all go a long way protecting your skin so you can focus on climbing, pedaling, hiking, paddling, or whatever the task at hand. At the moment, we’ve got sun shirts and sun hoodies from the likes of Stio, Columbia, Outdoor Research, Backcountry, NW Alpine, the North Face, and more.
Nothing says “spring” like a fresh pair of shades. While sunnies cost a lot at full retail, they’re deliciously inexpensive
UnNew here on Geartrade. Go ahead and have a little fun with it—pick out a pair or two to replace your scratched-up old ones. Play with new colors and frame shapes. At these prices, you can afford to play around. Try a brand you already know or switch things up. There’s lots to choose from among brands like Smith, Zeal, Costa, Sunski, Julbo, Ray-Ban, and others.
The time is coming to free the feet! After months of confinement in ski boots, snowboard boots, ice climbing boots, and dog-walking boots … the moment is nigh. Book a pedi and browse the
UnNew sandals waiting to hug your feet and air out your tootsies. Right now, we have plenty of sandal types, including river shoes, hiking sandals, hangout sandals, and flippy-flops from brands like Teva, KEEN, Chaco, Olukai, Dansko, and more.
If you don’t already have a
great wind jacket, you probably need one. They pack down to the size of a softball so you can carry them on any adventure, and you can pull them out anytime for a nice protective wind layer that adds a touch of warmth in a cool alpine (or beachy) breeze. Many brands are making exceptional models that weigh almost nothing but pack a punch when you need ‘em. Check out our current UnNew supply from the likes of Dynafit, Columbia, Jack Wolfskin, The North Face, La Sportiva, and more.
Yet another staple for spring and summer: the humble yet
mighty sun hat. And sure, you can get a sun hat that looks like the safari-style getup your parents wore on ‘90s camping trips. (The style has come full circle after all.) But you can also find ultralight, sleek wind visors, running caps, bucket hats, and cowboy-style hats on Geartrade right now. Check out the UnNew goods from Outdoor Research, Pistil, Under Armor, Jack Wolfskin, and Brixton.
We’d be wrong to finish any gear roundup without touting the deeply discounted goods still lining our shelves from last season. While you prep for spring and summer, go back through your winter inventory and make a checklist of things you need to repair or replace before next year. Are your ski gloves torn? Are your boots packed out? Are your ten-year-old bindings hanging on for dear life? All winter goods (skis, boards, bindings, boots, gloves, goggles, helmets, outerwear, and base layers!) are priced as low as they get on
Geartrade right now, so it’s the perfect time to re-up. Your autumn self will thank you.
