They combine BD.dry 3-layer stretch nylon in the shell panels with four-way stretch double-weave fabric in mapped areas, creating a hybrid construction that balances storm defense and freedom of movement. Both fabrics use a PFAS-free DWR finish, and the BD.dry sections bring waterproof, breathable, and windproof coverage for seriously wet or windy weather. A ski-helmet-compatible hood and internal stretch wrist gaiters help seal out the elements, while underarm gussets keep the fit moving naturally during climbs and descents. Two harness-compatible chest pockets are sized to hold skins, which makes transitions cleaner and keeps key gear close at hand. Black Diamond also adds a center-front zipper with a built-in mesh ventilation panel plus an interior chest pocket with media cord entry for practical mountain organization. At 500 grams, it stays trim enough for touring while still offering more weather security than a standard softshell. For skiers who split time between skin track, summit ridge, and powder laps, their Dawn Patrol Hybrid Shell brings smart material mapping and ski-specific detail into one streamlined jacket.
