The transition from a frost-covered trailhead to the high-alpine sun requires a layer that thinks as fast as your heart rate. Smartwool engineered this 1/2 zip to bridge the gap between heavy insulation and base-layer breathability, utilizing a hybrid construction that maps Merino wool exactly where your body generates heat. Imagine pushing through a steep, wind-swept ridge; the durable front panel shields you from the bite of the air, while knit zones dump excess steam before you start to chill. The articulated sleeves move in lockstep with your reach, whether you are scrambling over granite or settling into a long descent. Finished with thumbholes for a seamless seal against the cold, this piece acts as a self-regulating climate system. It’s the kind of reliable companion that stays on your back from the first light of a multi-pitch climb until you are finally peeling off your boots at the base of the mountain.
