Dynafit: Superfast, Ultralight, Fabulously UnNew on Geartrade
When most people hear “
Dynafit,” they think of lightweight tech ski touring bindings—the kind that, though a surreal combination of tiny metal pins and physics, can hold a 200-pound human to a 1-cm-thick ski as they careen down a mountainside.
Dynafit is associated with tech touring bindings for good reason … The brand was actually the first to adopt and market modern tech bindings back in the nineties. Decades into the tech binding movement (and many design refinements later), the binding style is ubiquitous.
But Dynafit has a lot more up its sleeve beyond the bindings, boots, and skis it’s best known for. This now includes an entire line of clothing designed for ski touring, mountaineering, and mountain running. They’ve expanded successfully into the trail running shoe market as well, designing lightweight yet grippy shoes well suited for steep, rocky, and exposed terrain. They’ve developed accessories like helmets, goggles, and running packs, all with an eye toward a fast’n’light model of movement.
Fast on the up, fit for the down: skis, boots, and bindings
Backcountry skiers everywhere trust Dynafit’s bindings, boots, and skis for covering lots of ground, fast. Dynafit was an early player in the days when ski mountaineers and backcountry skiers started upping the game for how much ground they could cover in a day. As gear got lighter, suddenly, big objectives became possible in a single fast push, rather than extended expedition-style slogs.
Dynafit’s offerings range from ridiculously featherlight carbon boots to agile yet powerful touring skis and bindings so minimalist you can hardly believe they work—but they do.
Made to move: clothes for ski touring, mountaineering, and running
When it comes to clothing, Dynafit is known for layers that are durable enough for touring and mountaineering but that also weigh little, breathe easily, and allow great range of motion. You can expect pants, jackets, insulating layers, and base layers that all stretch for a smooth kick-turn or high-stepping bootpack.
Dynafit strategically builds breathable panels into the clothes, as they’re all intended for high-cario output activities where the wearer is sure to work up a sweat. They place insulation where it matters most and skip the grams where it’s needed less. And their summer running clothes are practically as light as running in your birthday suit (but more appropriate).
Swift and sure footed: trail running shoes for big terrain
Dynafit has really risen to the occasion as the sport of trail running expands into more and more technical terrain. “Sky running,” ridge running, and big mountain runs are all en vogue right now among mountain athletes, and Dynafit has certainly kept pace with its footwear. Its many models of shoes are perfectly suited for long days, scrambly climbs, and steep descents. They balance the weight and bulk of aggressive tread with light materials, protection from sharp rocks, and just enough cushioning to spare the joints too much jostling.
Across the board, sustainability is consistent
One more thing we like about Dynafit—they understand that outdoor sports are only as long-lived as the environment those sports depend on. The brand has done great work toward better labor practices in textile production factories, joining the Fair Wear Foundation to hold itself accountable to safe and fair working conditions. Dynafit also became a bluesign system partner in 2011 and since then has made major strides toward reducing its carbon footprint, resource usage, and air and water emissions.
The brand even helps save the endangered snow leopard—the fierce feline figure in its logo. They support the Snow Leopard Trust and hold regular fundraising initiatives to help this powerful cat pushed to the verge of extinction by humans.
All in all, we’re pretty big fans of the brand. Which is why we’re so damn stoked to have a lot of
Dynafit goods listed on Geartrade these days. Right now, you can find a wide array of Dynafit trail running shoes, ski touring boots, skis, and clothing in superb shape, all at UnNew prices.
