How Does it Work: Consignment Intake
If you've been around our site for some time, you'll notice we utilize a consignment system to get products in the door. We love our consignors and that feeling of opening a box filled with awesome gear we know somebody else is going to love is unbeatable. Let's run through what our consignment process looks like in a little more detail.Delivery
Each day we have anywhere from 30-75 boxes roll up to the warehouse full of UnNew gear to be sorted and processed by us to you.Processing
We have a tiny but mighty team of 7 folks who go through each box. They inspect every item from top to bottom looking for any damage to note such as holes, tears, staining, pilling, functionality, or anything that you'd want to know before making a purchase. This process is manual and does take some time, but we've gotten far more efficient over the years (and plan to only keep that going!) The time of this process really depends on the quantity of boxed items and age as newer items are far easier to find. Once items are looked over, the team then goes to work searching the web to figure out what the item is and all the tech specs you'd expect to find along with it. This all gets entered into our system and finally, bagged up and sent to photo.Photo
Our 3-person photo team then gets to work steaming and shooting your items. It's pretty straightforward here. This moves the process along to receiving.Receiving
This is the last step in the Consignment Intake Process! Once items are shot by photo, they are moved to the receiving rack where everybody pitches in to help place the items in named locations throughout the warehouse. Larger items like tents and skis tend to have their own designated locations while softgoods and smaller items sometimes share a shelf! We hope you enjoyed this behind-the-scenes look at Geartrade's process and what happens to your items once they land at our SLC HQ!
