Middle of Winter Layers
For those of us still in a true winter, your layers for any extended amount of time spent outdoors should go as follows (with the idea that you are checking the weather reports and adjusting layers to your individual needs):- Base Layers (Synthetic or Merino Wool) and socks (again, synthetic or merino)
- Mid Layers (to retain warmth)
- Shell Jacket (to keep dry and/or prevent wind chill)
- Hats, Liner gloves (if it is really chilly), Mittens/Gloves
Transitional Layers
These layers will look a little different than the ones previously listed. For transitional temps, we want the option to be able to shed pieces at a moment's notice and similarly, put them back on. You can start with baselayers if you'd like, but the three key items to have are:- The Midlayer - even better if it is a zip-up item for extra versatility
- A Vest - perhaps the most underrated insulator, will keep your core extra toasty
- The Shell Jacket - tell the rain and wind to take a hike. This is key to staying dry.
Whatever you're getting up to, no matter the weather, have fun, be safe, and we'll catch ya next time!
