Black Diamond built their Recon Insulated Shell for cold winter days when dependable warmth matters as much as weather protection. Their BD.dry shell uses durable four-way stretch fabric with a PFAS-free DWR finish, while zoned Thermolite T3 Ecomade insulation at 60 gsm helps trap heat in key areas without making the jacket feel overly bulky. The shell fabric blends 85% nylon and 15% elastane, and the jacket is finished with a nylon ripstop lining for added durability and comfort. A ski-helmet-compatible hood, waterproof front zipper, and removable internal powder skirt help this piece stay ready for storm skiing, backcountry tours, and midwinter lift days. Pit zip vents make it easier to regulate temperature on climbs or during high-output laps, so the jacket can adapt when the pace changes. Storage includes two hand pockets, a chest pocket, two mesh internal drop pockets for skins or extra layers, and a left-arm lift pass pocket for quick access on the hill. Internal RECCO technology adds a searchability feature, giving their Recon Insulated Shell an extra layer of mountain-minded functionality beyond its warmth and weather protection.
