Black Diamond built their Recon Stretch Shell for skiers who need dependable storm coverage without giving up mobility or on-snow organization. Their BD.dry 3-layer stretch construction uses an 85% nylon and 15% elastane face fabric with a polyester backer and a PFAS-free DWR finish for durable wet-weather performance. With a 20,000 mm waterproof rating and 20,000 g/m2/24hr breathability, this shell is equipped for long days in heavy weather and active winter travel. Four-way stretch fabric and movement-focused patterning help it stay comfortable through touring transitions, sidecountry laps, and full resort days. The design includes a ski-helmet-compatible hood, PU-coated front zipper, DWR-treated pit zips, and adjustable cuffs to help manage both protection and ventilation. Their pocket layout is built for the mountain, with hand pockets, a left-arm lift pass pocket, a chest pocket, and two mesh internal drop pockets that can handle skins or spare layers. A removable internal powder skirt and integrated RECCO technology complete their Recon Stretch Shell, making it a strong choice for riders who split time between storm laps and backcountry missions.
