Sunlight shifts over the mountain ridge and the morning chill evaporates into a sweltering afternoon, but there’s no need to stop and search for a change of clothes. Eddie Bauer Ranger Zip-Off Pants thrive on the unpredictable rhythms of a long day in the backcountry, shielding shins from tangled brush and sharp granite during the approach, then quickly shedding their lower sections once the trail turns into a scramble. The rugged fabric stands up to the kind of hard-wearing play that turns knees grey with dust, while the clean, articulated cut keeps movement fluid whether crossing a creek or perched on a stump for lunch. By the time the sun dips low, you’ve got the full protection of a sturdy pant ready to handle the cooling air, all without adding a single extra pound to a daypack.
