What Our Gearhead Experts Are Saying:

"The Trestles 30 is the bag I point people to when they're just getting into backpacking or want something they don't have to baby. The Spirafil insulation keeps its loft even if the bag gets a little damp, which matters more than people realize on shoulder-season trips. It's roomier in the footbox than a lot of mummies at this price, and the fold-down zipper makes venting easy when temps swing overnight. Not a gram-counter's bag, but for the money it's hard to beat."

Some bags are built for a single mission. The Marmot Trestles 30 is built for the kind of trip where the plan changes twice before you leave the trailhead. Car camping Friday, trail Saturday, maybe a beach or a ridgeline somewhere in between — this is the bag that fits in the back seat and still does its job when temperatures dip overnight.

The Spirafil 120 synthetic insulation holds its loft even when conditions get damp, which takes one variable off the table on trips where weather isn't guaranteed. The trapezoidal footbox gives your feet room to move without creating cold spots, and the snagless draft tube keeps heat from bleeding out the zipper seam. A fold-down second zipper makes it easy to vent on warmer nights, and two hang loops mean drying it out at the trailhead takes no effort at all. It stuffs into a compression sack and fits wherever there's space — which is usually the whole point.

The Trestles 30 handles three seasons without making you think too hard about it (DWGC9PD)
