With the release of Shimano's XTR M9100 groupset comes new and improved brakes, too. The XTR BR-M9100 Disc Brake Caliper is sleek 2-piston caliper offering powerful braking performance at an impressive race-ready weight. When paired with XTR M9100 levers (sold separately), this caliper offers higher braking force, with reduced input force, massively speeding the linear response and braking power, and reducing lag time by a claimed 30% compared to its predecessor. It features a redesigned high-rigidity brake hose, and one-piece aluminum caliper to keep things minimalist, while maintaining stopping as its top priority. This makes it ideal for cross-country racing, as it minimizes weight, thanks to the one-piece aluminum design and straight threaded fitting.
Also coming to market this year is Shimano's new M9120 Brakeset, and you might be wondering where the M9100 falls in comparison. If we're comparing to years past, the M9100 falls in line with the Race model, while the M9120 is more similar to the Trail model. This means that while the M9120 packs in just about every feature, like Servo Wave technology and free-stroke adjust, the M9100 opts for a clean, feathery, minimalist design. While you can still adjust your levers with a tool in your shop or home garage, the M9100 isn't designed for adjustment on the go, allowing for major weight savings. In the back, the M9100 uses the lighter 2-piston system that offers more than enough stopping power for your XC rig, while the beefier M9120 opts for 4-piston system that's needed for stopping heavier enduro rigs. Both have been optimized for Shimano's newest IceTech Freeza rotors to drop heat as quickly as possible, even at high speeds.
The Shimano XTR BR-M9100 Disc Brake Calipers are sold individually, so please order two of them if you'd like a pair. The levers and rotors are sold separately, so please factor those into your decision as well.
